The Scottish National Table Tennis Championships is the premier event in the domestic table tennis calendar, bringing together Scotland’s top players to compete for national titles. Held once each season, the Championships crown the country’s champions across senior, junior and doubles events, making it the most prestigious tournament in Scottish table tennis.
When does it take place?
The Championships are typically held over a single weekend in March, with competitive play taking place on Saturday and Sunday. Senior events are usually contested on Saturday, while junior events are played on Sunday, creating a packed weekend showcasing the very best of Scottish table tennis.
Who is eligible to compete?
Unlike many open tournaments, the Scottish National Championships have strict eligibility criteria to ensure competitors are eligible to represent Scotland. Players must satisfy one of the following requirements:
- Be born in Scotland.
- Be born in a British Overseas Territory to a Scottish parent, subject to eligibility scrutiny.
- If not born in Scotland and having never represented another national association, hold a British passport and have been resident in Scotland and registered with Table Tennis Scotland for at least one year.
These rules help maintain the integrity of the National Championships while providing a pathway for players who have made Scotland their home.

The venue
For many years, the Scottish National Championships were held at Bell’s Sports Centre in Perth, a venue closely associated with the event. Following severe flood damage in late 2023, the facility closed permanently, with Perth & Kinross Council later confirming the withdrawal of services.
From 2024 onwards, the Championships found a new home at the sportscotland National Sports Training Centre Inverclyde in Largs, which has successfully hosted the event in 2024, 2025, and 2026.
2026 Scottish National Championships
The 2026 Championships produced several memorable performances, particularly in the senior singles events.
In the Men’s Singles, Colin Dalgleish claimed the national title after edging Gavin Rumgay 4–3 in one of the standout matches of the weekend. The victory secured Dalgleish’s second Scottish Men’s Singles title while preventing Rumgay from capturing what would have been a remarkable 19th national title.
The Ladies’ Singles saw Faye Leggett continue her dominance, defeating Rebecca Plaistow 4–1 in the final. Leggett was in impressive form throughout the tournament, progressing confidently through both the group stage and knockout rounds to claim her fifth consecutive Scottish National Women’s Singles title. Plaistow also enjoyed an outstanding championship, reaching the final after returning to the National Singles competition following several years away.
The doubles competitions also featured high-quality table tennis. Colin Dalgleish partnered Calum Morrison to win the Men’s Doubles title, while Rebecca Plaistow and Lara Stirling lifted the Ladies’ Doubles crown. The Mixed Doubles title went to Calum Morrison and Alisa Khalid.
