Maja Wójcicka
Maja didn’t fall in love with table tennis the first time she picked up a bat. At the age of five, she only picked up a bat to have a photo taken while she was at CTM club in Aberdeen supporting her mum, who also played the sport. It was three years later in Turriff that she truly discovered her passion for the game.
It all started quietly at the back of the British Legion hall in Turriff, where her coach and now a close friend, Doug Farquharson, encouraged her to try table tennis on a smaller table that he had made himself.
Maja enjoyed it so much that she borrowed the table to take home. We would set it up on top of the kitchen table it was made up of two separate halves of a tabletop. From that moment on, Maja started coming to training almost every week, and her love for the sport continued to grow. As time went on, Maja’s skills started to improve, and Doug arranged a session at Newmachar Sports Centre with one of the coaches from ASV, Charlie Matthew, to see if she was ready to join training at the biggest table tennis club in the Aberdeen and District area, led by Max Singer. From that moment on, Maja began training regularly, travelling at least twice a week to the club, which was around an hour’s drive from Turriff.
Today, Maja trains five times a week, mainly with her mum in Turriff. Whenever she can, she also travels to ASV for weekend training sessions with other players. She is a member of the National Squad, represents Scotland at international tournaments, and plays in the first division of the Aberdeen and District Table Tennis League.
Maja will now continue developing her potential by combining full time training with her studies at the Grantham Table Tennis Academy in England. She will also play in the Swedish first division. She is excited to see where these new opportunities will take her.

- Three titles won at 2024 Scottish National Championships: U15 Singles, U19 Singles & U19 Doubles
- U19 Champion and Senior Ladies finalist (Scottish National Championships 2025)
- U19 Doubles Champion and U19 finalist (Scottish National Championships 2026)
